On Sunday, July 24th, Brad Koechling completed the New Jersey State Triathlon, and raised over $5,000 for the Foundation.
We are touched that Brad dedicated his efforts to our Foundation in memory of his mom, our dear friend and founding board member, Brenda. Brenda sat on our small grants committee and also wrote the requirements for our scholarship gift. She was all about continuing to help recovering TBI patients to move forward with their lives.
This year the Foundation sponsored a new program at JKF Rehabilitation Hospital/Center for Head Injuries. The program dubbed TCEP, The Collaborative Experience Project, is all about moving forward after a head injury. It fills the gap between when therapies have ended and the patient is not yet able to go back to their normal life. TCEP is instructional, fun and encourages socialization. Classes are offered in creative writing, music enjoyment and expression, art, reading & writing and cooking. Over 40 young patients attend the classes this past semester. Unfortunately too many TBI patients become isolated after a head injury. TCEP offers an environment where people can connect with others, learn new things and regain a sense of self following a traumatic brain injury. We were so excited to be part of this program that we are dedicating a portion of Brad’s donations to sponsoring a second semester.
